Experiences and Competences of Prof. Ferruccio PITTALUGA

Ferruccio Pittaluga, full professor of "Fluid Dynamics of Thermal Machines" since 1986, started in 1972 his scientific activity, which has been mainly devoted, up to year 1990, to theoretical modelization and experimental investigation of complex turbulent flows, such as taking place in turbomachines, in power plant components, in open atmospheric environment, etc.

Since 1990, his scientific interest has been almost completely addressed toward combustion processes' conceptual interpretation, analytical/numerical modelization and, quite recently, also experimental validation, in the new "Savona Combustion Laboratory", which he established and is in charge of.

Since 1992, he is national representative, in behalf of Italian Ministry of Research, within the Management Committee of the European (EU+EFTA) initiative named COST Action F1, to which 14 nations participate, addressed to "Complex Three-Dimensional Viscous and Turbulent Flows" scientific investigation.

The 3D thermo-fluid-dynamical and reactive Navies-Stokes solver "NastComb" has been under autonomous development, within the Group coordinated by him, along a 12-year period (23 papers published in the last 8 years closely related to this code).

Since 1974 prof.Pittaluga is member of ASME (the American Society of Mechanical Engineers) and since 1976 is member of AIAA (the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics). Of this latter Society he has been appointed Associate Fellow in 1996, specifically for his scientific achievements in the fields of aero-propulsion and combustion modelling.

Since 1994 he is member of ERCOFTAC (the European Research Community on Flow Turbulence and Combustion). Since 1997 he is member of the Combustion Institute, Italian Section. He is author of 97 scientific papers, most of them with an international characterization.
